Mexican students protest for justice

Students from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) Monterrey campus organized for the morning of Monday January 9, 2012 a peaceful protest at the visit of President Felipe Calderon, as Stanford students did when President Calderon made a visit to this institution, and in memory of two students killed on March 19, 2010, a fact that has not been cleared by federal authorities.

Jorge and Javier, graduate students at Tec, were killed overnight on the premises of the University at the time in which elements of the Mexican army and criminals allegedly linked to organized crime entered the campus to pursue a prosecution initiated at a military checkpoint located near the University.

Young people emphasize that the protest will be peaceful, "are not allowed pejorative shouts or slogans to Felipe Calderon, and are asked to refrain from any written aggression." Now on Facebook and Twitter (under the HT # protestaFCHTec) there is a debate for and against the protest, which would be held outside the institution for both students and the general public who so wish to participate.

On 19 March 2010 our colleagues Javier Jorge Antonio Mercado and Francisco Arredondo, were killed in a clash between military forces and members of organized crime, and so far the facts have not been fully clarified.

Therefore, in the framework of the visit of President Felipe Calderon ITESM, we as students from different educational institutions of the state, we will join in a demonstration to demand clarification of the facts and protect the human rights of civil society.

The event will be entirely peaceful so we invite you to express yourself by refraining from any verbal or physical aggression against any person or institution. We want peace and legality, so we act on those ideals.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE EVENT

"A too long delayed justice is to justice denied"

William E. Gladstone

Almost two years after the murders of our colleagues Jorge Antonio Mercado and Javier Francisco Arredondo, during a clash between military forces and members of organized crime, the events of March 19 have not been fully clarified.

According to the CNDH (National Commission for Human Rights) recommendation 45/2010 of our comrades were beaten as he lay dying, as well as members of the armed forces tried to criminalize Sowing Weapons and hindering investigations.

However, to date only a soldier knows has been convicted of these crimes, and there is no official position on what happened, and this is just one of many cases of impunity with which the military forces have operated in this fight Drug Trafficking.

Therefore, in the framework of the visit of President Felipe Calderon ITESM, we as students from different educational institutions of the state, requires the Chairman to clarify the end of the events of March 19, 2010, and take real cards to prevent and punish such human rights violations by the armed forces.

We do not seek to discredit the work of the Armed Forces, but we believe important to ensure our rights and punish impunity.

We believe that efforts have been made to give a legal framework operating military forces, but after five years they have been for others, too late.

We sympathize with the families of George and Javier, and I assure you, as his companions, who have not been nor will be forgotten.
